Chiropodist or Podiatrist?

In Australia chiropodists are known as podiatrists. In the late 1970's the word "chiropodist" was retired in favour of "podiatrist".

What does a podiatrist do?

Podiatry is a branch of medicine devoted to the study, diagnosis and treatment of disorders of the foot, ankle and lower leg. Podiatrists are university trained health professionals who specialise in preventing, diagnosing and treating foot and lower leg complications.

The range of pathologies podiatrists treat is very broad. It includes bones, joints, soft tissue, skin, nails and neurological disorders of the lower limbs. In all cases, our podiatrists conduct thorough consultations including a clinical history, physical examination, diagnosis and composing a treatment plan. Langmore Podiatry is focused on the individual and takes an evidence-based view of podiatric medicine. Therefore, the therapy suggested will be the product of many factors and incorporate the specifics of each patient presented.

Education is a key basis of podiatric medicine and our podiatrists will, in the course of offering therapeutic services, communicate how you can also be an effective partner in good foot health. This may take many forms. Your podiatrist may, for example, suggest how you can help prevent the recurrence of corns,  or advice regarding shoe choice.

Our podiatrists have completed either a Bachelor's or Master's degree in podiatry, are registered with the National Podiatry Registration Board and are members of the Australian Podiatry Association. We have extensive experience in all aspects of podiatry and attend continuing education programs to ensure you receive the best modern evidence-based treatments.

Langmore Podiatry offers treatments many other foot clinics do not. We feel that it is necessary to offer all the best techniques and technologies available, so that we can tailor the most appropriate and effective treatment to each patient. Shockwave, nail bracing, Kerflex, dry needling, mobilisation, prolotherapy, and PACT therapy are just a few examples of the kind of treatment options that make Langmore Podiatry a comprehensive podiatric choice.
